My Name is Honey - I Live Upstairs from You
Updated: Oct 22, 2020
No, not really, I'm just showing my age haha. For you youngins - google the song Luka by Suzanne Vega, you'll like it. It's very catchy.
Anyway here is a little bit about me. I was born and raised in western Kentucky, and lucky enough to have an early childhood filled with amazing, strong southern women that imparted to me my greatest super power, which is - not giving a fuck what other people think about me.
My super power led me to get into all kinds of predicaments and adventures, mostly pleasant and a few not so pleasant ones. Because of this, I have led a very full life and I wouldn't change a second of it, even the night I spent in jail. I will be adding lots of my own experiences into the sexy stories I craft for you and you can try to guess which parts are auto-biographical and which parts are embellishments.
I have held more than my fair share of jobs, most of which I took just for the experience, not so much to create or further a career. I always knew in my heart I would eventually be a writer and everything else was just build up to that. So here are a few of the many various jobs I have held. I was once the lady on the other end of the phone when you called 411. Yes babies - before smart phones and when the internet was still dial up, and there was such a thing as pay phones, people would call 411 (similar to 911) to find phone numbers or addresses to places. I have also been a waitress (who hasn't?), a maid for rental condos, a courier, a property manager, a real estate agent, a gas station cashier, grocery cashier, and an exotic dancer (one of my favorites and most seminal job). I owned two formal wear boutiques and a clothing company, and many more jobs that I have forgotten. I have filled the roles of college student, wife, ex-wife, wife again (different man), and finally world's most cool yet ineffective mother. Now, I am finally embarking on my most recent adventure by diving into my life's dream of being an author.
As my bio says, these days I spend most of my time writing at my home on the shady shores of Lake Barkley in Kentucky. My many neighbors on the lake, the tourists, and part time residents that drift in and out, and boats that whiz by give me endless inspiration. I have lived many places, but this place is so rich in atmosphere and real life unique characters you simply won't find anywhere else. Here in the magical, very western tip of Kentucky, I sit between two of the largest man made lakes and the various river systems that service them. We have quaint old river towns like Grand Rivers with its internationally renown restaurants -Patti's 1880's, Bill's Bone Box and now T. Lawson's Grill and the less well known but exceptionally fun Thirsty Turtle. If you ever get the chance, you simply must stroll down the old time-y main drag of Grand Rivers, lined with ice cream shops, antique stores and trendy boutiques, it's refreshing like a cool drink of lemonade on a sizzling day. Then we have little party spots tucked away in small town gems on the water's edge like Buzzard Rock and HU-B's. On a Saturday night in summer you will find their outside decks rocking with a live band where locals will be rubbing shoulders with the out-of-towners under the twinkle lights. All of this fun is split in two by Land Between the Lakes, a 170,000 acre majestic and undeveloped area full of history and mystery. The culture and narrative of LBL is more than I can cover in a couple of sentences, so one day I will make a detailed post on it, but for now I just wanted to impart to you that it is a nature lover's paradise and figures heavily in my stories.
I have lived in a bunch of beautiful places and ugly places and met a corresponding amount of beautiful and ugly characters. I hope you enjoy exploring these places and characters with me in the stories I tell, as much as I love sharing them with you.
Feel free to peruse through some of my personal pictures from the Kentucky lakes area below.
Love,
Honey
